Springfield Mayor Commemorates V-E Day with Message to Veterans

Springfield Mayor Ken McClure commemorates V-E Day (Victory in Europe Day) by sending a message to area Veterans of America’s Armed Forces.

“Seventy-five years ago today was a very important event in World War II – the end of the War with Germany. Let us all thank the World War II veterans, the Greatest Generation, and especially remember our colleague, former Mayor Pro Team Ralph Manley. Ralph jumped on D-Day, June 6, 1944 and passed away last year,” McClure said.

“Let us also think about and thank our Veterans of all wars, conflicts and in those who serve in peacetime, to recognize their sacrifices and devotion. Tonight, I also remember Major General Fred Marty, former City of Springfield Deputy City Manager, who passed away in 2013 after a distinguished military and public service career.” Fred Marty served two tours of duty in Vietnam and four tours in Germany before serving at Missouri State University and the City.

“Not only do our Veterans protects our rights and freedoms, but they also provide services and aid to those in need. Veterans have made the dreams of our Forefathers possible. Veterans are our history, our real life heroes and our models for the nation.”
