Springfield Police Officer Shoots Driver After She Hit Him

Springfield Police have released more details about an officer-involved shooting this morning.

The Police Chief says officers found a stolen vehicle at a Fast-n-Friendly on Main and Chestnut around 5 a.m.

When officers approached the vehicle, the Chief says 27-year-old Maggie Thrift tried to flee police and hit one officer who suffered minor injuries.

The officer who was hit plus two others fired shots at the stolen vehicle.

Later this morning, authorities got a call of a woman with  gunshot wounds on Commercial street and arrested Thrift on outstanding warrants.

Police found the stolen vehicle at Atlantic and Park around 1:30 this afternoon.

The officer was treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Update:

A woman is in custody after she was shot by Springfield Police.

Police say an officer tried to stop a stolen car this morning at the Fast n’ Friendly at Main and Chestnut.

When the woman tried to hit him with her vehicle, he opened fire, but the woman got away.

She was later found on Commercial Street, suffering from several non-life threatening gunshot wounds.

Police are still looking for her car.

Springfield Police say officers fired shots at a suspect this morning after they were called to the Fast n’ Friendly convenience store near Main and Chestnut.

Crime scene tape has been up around the location this morning.

Police say the suspect got away.

There are no reports of any injuries.

Police are still investigating.
