Nixa Residents Will See Lower Real Estate Tax Levy For 2021

People in Nixa will pay a lower real estate tax for the 2021 tax year.

The tax levy will drop from .3246 to .299.

The change has been certified by the State Auditor.

Press Release:

Nixa, MO – Nixa residents will pay a lower real estate tax rate to the City of Nixa for the 2021 tax year. The new tax levy rate for 2021 is 0.299. The tax levy rate for 2020 was 0.3246.

This reduction to the real estate tax levy has been certified by the State Auditor and passed by ordinance of the Nixa City Council.

Why is this happening?

The purpose of annual tax levy rate adjustments is to ensure that although property values and cost of living may rise from year-to-year, the city will collect roughly the same real estate tax revenue each year and the real estate tax burden on city residents stays roughly the same year to year. The idea is that as property values rise in the community, the tax levy falls to balance each other out relative to the current economy.

Does the city’s real estate tax levy ever go up?

No. The only exception to this would be in the case that voters decide to pass a ballot issue to raise the real estate tax rate for some purpose. The City of Nixa has not asked for any such increase to the real estate tax levy since 2000.

What about the personal property tax?

The City of Nixa does not levy any personal property tax.

How does the city’s real estate tax levy compare to the total real estate tax levy imposed on Nixa residents?

In 2020, when the total real estate tax levy on Nixa residents by all overlapping districts was 6.5541, the City of Nixa’s portion of that total was .3246.
