Man Sentenced To Life In Prison In Greene County

A man from Springfield will spend the rest of his life behind bars for a 2019 murder.

Keeton Hill Waring received that sentence in court Monday. 

Waring was convicted on several counts including second-degree murder. 

Greene County court documents say Waring shot Jamie Carroll with a shotgun two years ago after becoming upset over a missing cell phone. 

The shooting happened at a home in Springfield.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson announces that on October 27, 2021, Keeton Hill Waring, 33, was sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2019 murder of Jamie Carroll.  

On August 4, 2021, the defendant was found guilty by a Greene County jury of Count I: murder in the second degree under the felony murder rule because the death resulted from the defendant’s unlawful possession of a firearm; Count II, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon; and Count III, unlawful use of a weapon by exhibiting in an angry or threatening manner.  

The evidence at trial was that the defendant shot Mr. Carroll with a shotgun on February 21, 2019, after the defendant became upset about a missing cell phone.  

At the sentencing hearing, evidence indicated that the defendant was a member of the Southwest Honkies prison gang around the time of the murder and had multiple prior criminal convictions.  

The defendant was sentenced by Greene County Circuit Judge Becky Borthwick. In addition to sentencing the defendant for life imprisonment for murder, Judge Borthwick also sentenced the defendant to 10 years imprisonment for unlawful possession of a firearm, and seven years imprisonment for unlawful use of a weapon.
