The Highway Patrol is reporting over 1,000 traffic fatalities in 2021, the first time since 2006.
1,004 people were killed in crashes this year, a 3% increase from last year.
The Highway Patrol says around two-thirds of those killed were not wearing a seat belt
It’s the second straight year of growing fatality rates after a steady decline in previous years.
Authorities say around 40% of the crashes involved speeding or driving too fast in certain conditions.
