Missouri House Bill Would Require Counting Ballots By Hand

(KTTS News) — Election officials would have to count all ballots by hand under a bill in the Missouri House.

The bill’s sponsor, Representative Mitch Boggs from LaRussell, says he wants to give everyone peace of mind about the election process.

“What I want to do is what I said before, and that is make our elections safe (and) secure. And not only that, but the ability to prove that our elections are safe and secure.”

Representative Peggy McGaugh from Carrollton is a former county clerk.

She says she’s concerned about counting by hand.

“Realistically, it’s certainly not feasible to go back to hand counting in this day and age when we have the technology that we need to use and that has been bought and paid for.”

The Missouri News Network says Boggs says he wants to give everyone peace of mind in the election process.
