(KTTS News) — City Utilities has canceled its request to cut demand for energy because of the winter storm.

Press Release

As this time, the energy conservation request issued earlier this morning, has been canceled. We want to thank you and our customers who responded to the appeal as we resolved the issue.

The earlier request was made due to a component failure at JTEC that required Unit – 2 to be taken offline and out of service temporarily while the repairs were made.  The repair has been completed and all CU power generation units are in service.

Additionally, despite the extreme temperatures, the supply of Natural Gas to our system is being delivered as it normally would be. We are not experiencing any issues with the delivery or supply.

This is an extreme weather event and personnel from all areas of the utility are available to rapidly respond to situations. The conservation tips that we provided earlier will help customers to not only reduce the demand on the systems but will ultimately help to reduce utility bills.

Original Story

Springfield City Utilities is asking its customers to conserve electricity while repairs are being made to a transmission line.

CU says one of the turbines at the John Twitty Energy Station has been taken offline.

In the meantime, customers are being asked to:

  • Turn down your thermostat 2 degrees.
  • Wait until later today to run your washer, dryer, and dishwasher.
  • Turn off any unnecessary lights and appliances.

Liberty Utilities issued an alert earlier this morning for customers in the Branson and Hollister area.

They were asked to conserve energy until noon to reduce demand.

  • Set thermostats to 65 degrees or as low as comfortable. Customers who are elderly or have medical conditions complicated by the cold should not lower their thermostat.
  • Turn off and unplug computers, monitors, chargers, printers, and televisions during periods of non-use.
  • Avoid using major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers, washing machines, and clothes dryers.
  • Turn down the setting on your hot water heater to 120 degrees.
  • Turn off nonessential lights.
  • Postpone all nonessential energy use.
