Eight people escaped an apartment fire in Springfield this morning.

Firefighters arrived on scene around 3:30 on Clay Avenue, just east of Drury University. The fire started in upstairs apartments.

Firefighters stopped the fire spread. The Red Cross is providing help to those who need it.
